Curriculum and Programs

Student Community Service

An essential component of our religion curriculum and of our overall school program is student community service. Throughout the academic year, from September to June, each student in each grade participates in monthly community-service projects. Our sixth graders perform park clean-up at Martin Luther King Recreation Center, our seventh graders serve as tutors to the kindergarten students at Oak Park Elementary School, and our eighth graders prepare and serve meals to the homeless at St. Vincent de Paul Village in downtown San Diego.

As a way of deepening their understanding of this critical component of their education, students keep a writing journal and have an opportunity to connect those experiences in a broader spiritual context during their extended-day retreats.

For more information on student community service, please contact Ms. Maria Centanni, Director of School Ministry, at 619-544-9455, x 232, or by e-mail at mariac@nativityprep.org.
