Notre Dame Mission Volunteers/AmeriCorps

Notre Dame Mission Volunteers (NDMV), founded in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1992 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, serves as one of the national partner sites for the AmeriCorps National Service Program and has done so for our school since 2001-specifically, by providing the administrative support for our beginning AmeriCorps teachers. Through NDMV, volunteers nationwide serve in a variety of ministries, working directly with the underserved in rural and urban communities and typically in the fields of literacy and education.

Thanks to the generous support of NDMV, our beginning teachers work with us full-time, in the classroom as teachers and as teacher aides and as coaches and administrators, while earning for each year of service a federally-funded AmeriCorps grant to help subsidize costs for graduate studies at the University of San Diego, or elsewhere, or to repay undergraduate loans.

Since our founding in 2001, more than 20 beginning teachers at our school have benefited from the NDMV-AmeriCorps program. As of 2011, five of those 20 who completed two years of AmeriCorps service continue to work with us as full-time, salaried teachers.

For more information on AmeriCorps beginning teacher positions, please contact Mr. Brendan Sullivan, Principal, at 619-544-9455, x 222, or by e-mail at bsullivan@nativityprep.org.
